Former France and Tottenham star Etienne Capoue has taken up a new sport after being released by Villarreal.

Capoue retired from professional football after leaving Villarreal at the end of last season as his contract with the Spanish club expired. Upon retirement, the French midfielder took up a new sport as he joined third-tier basketball team Jovens de L’Eliana in Valencia, according to . The 36-year-old was recently in action for his new team as they beat CB Morvedre 78-70.

The ex-France international made his debut for Ligue 1 side Toulouse in 2007 before moving to the Premier League in 2013 when he joined Tottenham. After two years with Spurs, he spent five and a half seasons at Watford. In December 2020, the player moved to Spain and joined the Yellow Submarine and won the Europa League title, beating Manchester United in the final in 2021.

The report also claims that Capoue was never a big fan of football as a sport as he loved to play basketball. Now that his football career is over, the Frenchman can wholeheartedly concentrated on playing the sport.
