The hosts got off to a bright start and took just 15 minutes to get their noses in front after Michael Obafemi drew first blood. Plymouth were put under intense pressure from a chasing Blackburn and they finally cracked four minutes from regulation time with Joe Rankine-Costello grabbing a late equaliser. Rooney raged at the fourth official Jacob Miles after his team conceded late as he was convinced that there was a foul in the build-up. Miles deemed that the former England striker crossed the line while expressing his dissent and called upon referee James Linington, who then produced the red card.
