The United goalkeeper sustained the injury in training prior to his team's tour to the United States last month and is yet to play in any of their pre-season games. Manchester Evening News adds that he will also miss this weekend's friendly with Fiorentina but should return for the Arsenal encounter in just over a week.

Some United fans may be concerned that Onana comes into the season undercooked after missing their games against Leeds United, Bournemouth, Everton, and West Ham. Plus, backup option Altay Bayindir has struggled in goal in the three pre-season matches he has played in. Either way, the Red Devils still have concerns over their goalkeeping situation.

The report adds that Cameroon international Onana, who has made a number of big mistakes at United following his £47.2 million ($63.5m) transfer from Inter Milan in 2023, has a good working relationship with head coach Ruben Amorim – who privately indicated he wanted to keep the 29-year-old early in the summer.

Bayindir is likely to start against Fiorentina in United's last pre-season friendly on Saturday but if Onana is fit, Amorim is likely to bring the ex-Inter man back into the fold for the Arsenal clash at Old Trafford on August 17.
