Everton fans are not quite on the same page as Leighton Baines judging by the reaction to his recent claims.

In an interview with the club’s official website, the left-back stated that there is competition for every position in the squad.

The 32-year-old referred to players who are on the sidelines with injuries, as well as the new arrivals.

Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru, Sandro Ramirez, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney and Cuco Martina have all come through the welcome gates at Goodison Park.

With the Europa League as part of Everton’s schedule this season, the team are in need of strength in numbers.

So far, the club have brought in new players to boost the defence, midfield and forward line, but they have a large void left behind by Romelu Lukaku, who has joined Manchester United.
