The game burst into life in the second half when Al-Ahli’s Franck Kessie scored the opener after impressive link-up play with Ivan Toney, who was making his debut in Saudi Arabia following a summer move from Brentford. However, Al-Nassr avoided defeat thanks to a moment of fortune, when Sultan Al-Ghannam's cross took a deflection off Al-Ahli defender Bassam Mohammed Alhurayji and looped past goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, finding its way into the net in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

While it wasn’t one of Ronaldo's most memorable performances, the forward issued a rallying cry after the match on social media where he wrote: "Until the last moment. Keep believing!"
