Several footballing powerhouses like Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Belgium will be absent in Paris after failing to qualify. Brazil, notably, failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 2000, finishing third in the final stage table. They would have been the defending champions after they bagged the gold medal following their 2-1 win over Spain in extra time in 2020.
Similarly, Mexico faced disappointment after losing to Guatemala in their qualifying tournament via a penalty shootout. The Men's Olympic football tournament will start on July 24 and the final will be held on August 9.
